For racing engines we use the tapered aluminum ring compressors, but haven't seen any of that style for larger dia tractor piston rings. I have a 4 band Lisle that is supposed to be good for up to 7" dia, but after two pistons, the 1st tension band broke off the tightener. [Reply]   [No Email]

I've got several different sizes of them that go from like 2 inch diameter on up to at least 7 inches. I know one of the ones I've got came from Dad and it has been around for probably 30 plus years and is as good today as it was way back then....even after many, many pistons being loaded with it. They look like a split piece of pipe. Then there are hooks spot welded to the out side of them. You have a pair of pliers that pulls on the hooks to compress the rings. I love them and hate the band type. I have the base set. That goes up to about 4 1/2 inches. Then I bought the extra bands for the larger pistons. I have also made a few bands too. Just take some thinner flat steel and roll it. weld on some nuts for hooks and they will work with the pliers from the OTC set. OTC Ring compressors [Reply]  [No Email]
