HWRC 01-30-2013 17:45:34 75.16.232.144 Report to Moderator	I have a sears air compressor that blew the head gasket. I have a new gasket but do not know the correct torque to apply to the head bolts. The bolts are metric M6's (about 1/4 inch bolt size). They are screwed into the body and use lock washers under the bolt heads. I suspect these loosened somewhat to allow the gasket to blow. Would anyone venture a guess as to the torque on these bolts. Also, could I use lock tite to help secure them? Thanks in advance!!! [Reply]   [No Email]

As far as the Loctite goes, you'll have to find some that will withstand the heat generated in the head and also one that will be removable should you need to do any future repairs. If you can figure out which one to use, it's not going to hurt, but properly torqued you shouldn't need anything else on them. I've worked on quite a few compressors over the years and never had a problem with the head bolts backing off when tightened properly. Torque specs [Reply]  [No Email]
