| Navy called a Vietnam era vet due to the fact I joined before the end of it. 1974 to 1980 started out on subs boomers then went to the JFK aircraft carrier. As for politics well not all of us can be right LOL but as for the guns and what type mags I own small and large but both have there place when being handle correctly |

| Did you personally draw HFP for any one month? That determines whether you are a Vietnam Vet, in the eyes of the real VV. Not what year you were drafted. |

| | Old never claimed to be a Nam vet. He said he was a Viet Nam era vet. Which is what you would be called if you served any time during the war.At least he is not making claims like some I have seen. No one served in nam after the war and if you are under thirty. You did not serve in nam. As for me USS Saratoga CV 60 Tonkin Gulf 1972. |

| Most have been before my time on the JFK. I got on her around 1977 or so. Did do a med cruse at least once. Got stuck at Rota Spain due to bad weather and had to be flown out to the JFK the next day since the whale boats could not run due to waves |

I read a book awhile back about submarines during the cold war, there was no mention of going up rivers. In fact I have never read about submarines going up rivers submerged. I did read about an incident when a new model Russian sub came out that one of ours managed to get pictures of it without getting detected. The skipper got close enough that the picture was three frames taped together. Another incident was not so good. Our boat was detected by the Russians north of the Aleutians in Russian waters. They were able to keep on her tail for three days until our sub had to give up and surface under the Russian's guns. very embarrassing.Could you give your source for the up rivers under ships? |

I read during WWII they shipped some subs submerged down the Mississippi. It was on a chamber of commerce website for a city along the Illinois river. Seneca? |

| When in sub school in Groton CT we where told yes there are still a few Diesel boats around but they where all just trainers that was in 1974/75. At that time they where not even listed as active boats if what we where told was true. So as you call it the cold war shoot that started what in the middle of the 50s??? And went on till the 90s when the wall came down between east and west Germany |

| | It was a research sub used to test out new systems. Holds some pretty impressive record. Deepest dive by a sub 3000+ feet. Deepest firing of a torpedo. USS Dolphin. |

| Most of the classified and even the Secret info is on the Internet somewhere for anybody to access. As for design specs. A little figuring knowing the pressure hull thickness, the steel allow and the placement of stiffenng ribs. Any hughschool student can figure dive capability within a 100 feet give or take. Reactor power, steam generator size/surface area, material and thermal output is just a few calculations. The laws of physics are not a secret. |

| Well since you not in the U.S.A. there are things a person who was in the military said and oath to that if we do not keep such can go to jail weather or not it can be found other wise. Please as I have asked before if you can not say things to go along with what I say but instead try to prove me wrong just leave me alone. O know the oath I took and what I was told you do not and sadly do not seem to understand that |

| If research means being able to sneak around super quiet on batteries . Instead of the shake , rattle and hum of a U235 fueled boiler. One of the reasons the new subs are electric drive. To allow higher performance with the reactor scramed for silent mode. |
