When my dad built this barn, there were only two lumber yards in the area, and only one hardware store. No way were you going to buy hinges of this size around here. I was working out of town at the time, but when I got back home I built 24 of these. And one lockable latch for the man door.
To build the hinges I used 1/4-inch plate, 1/2-inch pipe, and 1/2-inch round stock.

| Nice hinges, I've built a few sort of like that for gates. I like your padlock hider, I made a couple using flat stock but your half inch stock makes for easier applications. I haven't had a crowbar artist get through one yet. Burnsy |

| Bernsy back then where I live there are more chain saws than hack saws. I figured if someone wanted in the barn they would just cut a hole in the side of the barn. |

| | Years ago Dad built a combinition door guard/entry ramp for an outbuilding at my Uncles church. The building had been broken into and they wanted the door blocked and a ramp to get the mower in too, so Dad build a piece that did both. A few weeks after installing it they went down to the shed to get the mower, dropped the guard/ramp, and opened the door. What a suprise they got when they saw there was a hole cut in the back of the building and their NEW mower was gone. Yep, regardless of the type of lock, all a lock does is keep an honest man honest......... |
