Wile E said: (quoted from post at 18:02:35 07/10/12) Every week or so I get a notice from Adobe on my computer saying "upgrade your Adobe Acrobat" Click install....Blah, Blah.
Do these yahoos at Adobe really upgrade their software every week?
Do I really need to upgrade this? I am not a computer Xpert.
Thanx. |
I know that I'm bringing up a rather old thread, but I will NOT allow any of Adobe's junk on my computer. It takes up a lot of space and is a resource hog to run, not to mention the constant nags as noted above.
For several years, I have used a program called PDF Exchange Viewer from Tracker Software. Problem solved!
Myron
Forgot to mention is is freeware that doesn't nag you to buy it.

| | I don't use Acrobat Reader. Linux ships with a reader called "Evince" that's good enough. But if you use Acrobat you do need to install updates because of the amount of malware that targets Adobe products. So, if you don't have any Adobe stuff, I take it you don't use Flash. What do you use instead? Do without? |

| Of all the programs that run full time, it"s one of the better ones. The worst programs are just about any anti-virus. Norton is the worst, followed by Mcafee, then AVG. The other program I have that is always running is Itunes. Damn thing is always hogging resources unless I go into task manager and shut it down, and it"s only a matter of time before it"s up and running again. The WORST program out there by far for me is Internet Explorer. I"ve seen it get close to 500,000k with multiple windows and tabs open. Not quite the same thing though. It only runs when you want it too. I doubt adobe would use 5000k at idle. |

| I have Adobe Reader and have never been asked to pay anything. And yes, they have frequent updates. |

| | I have "Nuance" PDF reader. It's free and has been flawless. I installed it a coupla years ago, and haven't heard from them since. It just sits there doing what it's supposed to do. I still keep getting pop-ups and emails trying to sell me Acrobat. |

| | 1. If adobe is bogging down you computer you need to upgrade it. Reader used to be a resource hog but they fixed may of the issue back with version 7 (current version is 10) 2. Yes, if you are using adobe products (reader, flash) you need to update it when they ask. Due to the saturation of the market by adobe, it has become a method for hackers to exploit weaknesses in your computer. As holes are found by either hackers or adobes own research adobe fixes the problems and releases an update. Keeping your programs up to date is one of the easiest ways to protect your computer from hacking/malware/viruses. |
