Posted yeaterday about getting my mill up and running. This one is a bit different than the Bridgeports I am used to so I wanted to get a manual for it. Looking online I could find them everywhere in the $50 to $75 range. I really didn't want to pay that but figured I was going to have no choice. Then I decided to look up the mfg and find out what they might have. So, I called and talked to the lady in the customer service dept, told her what I had, and asked what manuals were available, and the cost. Within about 10 seconds she told me that they had the manual and would be happy to email it to me just as soon as we got off the phone. Gave her my email address and sure enough within a few minutes of hanging up the phone I had a file with the complete manual setting in my email in box. I wonder how many people have paid $50-$75 or more for a manual instead of taking the 5 minutes needed to call and get one that can be stored and copied as many times as you want, for FREE...Just goes to show it always pays to do your research and ask questions. You never know what you might find for free..... |

| The key in th ewhole thing is CALLING! I've emailed a lot of companies asking for information and have been completely ignored. I call and they bend over backwards to help. Monroe-Tuffline, for instance, ignored over a dozen emails, just never repsonded at all. poor way to do business, but such is life. |

| | I agree. It surprises me how many guys post for help finding parts and service manuals when you can either get them free on line or by calling the manufacturer. Got do some digging sometimes I guess. |

| Absolutely right, I need to put a head gasget on the Cummins ISB In the Freightliner. I was grumbling about the $115 cost of a service manual and got to looking at the Cummins site a little closer and saw they have a program (free) that you put the data off of your engine (Including s/n)and you can have access to service, TSBs,etc for that engine. Pretty good I think, just had to look a little bit! Andy |

| | It does pay. I had a friend who bought a kayak at an auction, it had a hole in it which he thought he could repair so it went cheap but is is a good brand. he called the company to find out the best way to repair and they sent him a kit with instructions and all materials free. kayak fixed and he loves it. frank |

| | I (Frugal Conservative Fuddy Duddy) also am NOT a fan of giving my money to some person for what I can get elseewhere for nothing. Since the internet days your story is fairly common i.e. look and search on line and theres a ton of info available for free what people are still trying to sell. An example I've seen for sale certain manuals or info which the seller has downloaded for free off the net and organized as a word or PDF file and/or printed it and then offering it for sale. Even if something is a picture file its possible to print and scan it then use OCR software to convert it to a word or text file. Much info on line is protected and cant be copied and pasted or converted etc., I know this "dude" who has tried it lol As you noted if a person is too lazy or not smart enough to look and search or just isnt willing to take the time, sure theres someone who can profit off that and really I dont hold it against the person who is selling the same information. He saw an opportunity and was willing to work and take some initiative so good for him....... NOTE Im NOT condoning violation of copyright laws, I'm ONLY saying theres people out there who gather info and re sell it to others who for whatever reason cant find it themselves.....So dont anyone have a calf now PS Years of experience has also taught me to "fly under the radar" especially where a government bureaucrat is involved and dont draw attention to your self and NEVER ask a bureaucrat a question to which he will likely answer NO, sorta like the Clinton policy of dont ask dont tell lol "Lifes not really that short, its just that youre dead for such a longgggggggg time" Best wishes John T |
