This Ford Focus my daughter has I was goint to change one of the ignition coils. I removed the bolt holding the coil to the spark plug with an 8 MM socket. Tried to pull the coil off the spark plug and it did not want to come. Do I need to pull harder or is there a trick to separating the two?

A new boot and spring was always in the box with any new coil on plug coil I ever bought.

I was trying to take the coil off my son's 2009 so I did not want to wreck anything. His car runs good. Then I could see what I would have to do on my daughters car unless she could do it. I am thinking now it is not a job she should not do. That boot fits so tight to the engine I can't see how the old one would be able to be put back on.
Thanks for the information Gambles

JOB,

My son's F-250 pickup has individual coils on the spark plugs. When you buy a new coil, it has a coil spring with it that actually connects the end of the spark plug to the coil.

The old one, that is, the one that's already on the spark plug, gets ruined when you pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug, and then you use the new one that came with the coil to replace the old one.

At least, that's the way it has worked out on his truck. YMMV on the Focus.

My daughter has a 2007 Focus and I am looking at my sons 2009 Focus. I think or thought they would be the same. On my sons car I see no spark plug wires. the spark plugs I feel are on top of the engine, the coils have two wires going to them, maybe 16 gauge. Between the coil and engine there is a piece of rubber that fits tight to the engine.
I was looking at his car to see what had to be done to see if she could do it herself. She lives 6 hours from me.
