Bowling lane workbench ?

I can buy used 12 foot sections of bowling alley lanes. Do you think they would make a good workbench top? Thanks to the constructive respondents.

Absolutely!

With a proper frame under it, it'd be darn near indestructible for anything but welding.

It'd also make an outstanding woodworking bench.

Absolutely. Most are made from either Southern Yellow Pine or hard maple, and make excellent workbenches, butcher blocks, countertops, etc.

Personally, I prefer a shuffle board workbench cause the shuffles stay on when your bowling balls might not!

Jim (in central Illinois) Do I count?

front sections and rear sections of lanes are maple, middle is pine, if I had the room i m take a section for a workbench probably last forever !!!

I just called the guy that has them, he said they are "hard rock maple" . He said they are 2 inches thick 42 wide and have angle iron underneath. I told him I'd be there in the morning.

As others have said they would be excellent.
I scrounged about an 6' piece of bowling alley once and used it for a landing on the stairway in a cabin I built. The piece I had was maple all the way through.

My brother has a bench made out of an old lane. You will be amazed at how much that thing's going to weigh.

Makes a dandy work surface though.
