Briggs Stratton ignition

Hi Folks, Yes a pressure washer is a tool in our game! Anyhow I have a B&S 2500 PSI pressure washer built in 2006 with the B&S 6.5 horse Elite engine. This has run dependably for several years until now. It doesn't have any spark.
I took this apart and tested the coil with an ohm meter. I'm assuming the trigger device for this is some sort of Hall effect sensor at the center of the coil, of course it appears non-user servicable. With the ground lead of the meter clipped to the laminations there is no continuity to the spark plug cap, but there is zero resistance at the small ground or "shutdown" wire to the speed control lever. The insulation on the wire is good and this is tested off the engine. Is there anyway to "flash" or reactive this or do I just have to order a new coil that will probably cost 1/2 what the unit is worth?
Your comments please, Thanks

It has a composite coil it either has fire or does .t You might try to disconnect the kill wires at the engine & see if the coil will fire then. If not time foe a new coil .

Probably nothing more than a magnetic reed switch. But they do go out and a complete coil with the"magnetron" element isn't too bad.

Go to amazon.com and put in Briggs Stratton ignition

That's pretty much what I figured. I see them on Fleabay in the $15 to $30 range so that isn't as bad as I thought.
I'm going to see if I can find one locally first. If Ford computerized ignition and this are the standard of the future, we're screwed!

I would disconnect the kill wire as been suggested. The kill switch may be defective and is grounding out the coil. Hal

My pressure washer with a Briggs has a low oil sensor on it. You could see if yours has one and if so unplug the lead going to it and see if you have spark.

Hello s.crum,
Before you through that module out, like El Toro suggetsed, check the kill switch. Also check any wiring that chould short out the ignition system.
Then install the igniton module back on, clean the flywheel and the module, and set it at .011 to .012............ its worth a try!
5 to 6 years though is about right for the module to go bad.

Briggs has used the MAGNETRON system since the early 80's so you are about 30 years behind. Remove the kill wire from the back of the coil. If not fire, replace the Magnetron. Gap the new coil about .010 inch from the flywheel. I use a business card.
