I need a bushing for a pinion gear on a lawn mower. It is 5/8 OD and 1/2 ID. It is about 1 inch long. Where can I find something like that? I can drill it out to 1/2 ID but it needs to be 5/8 OD. The less hassle the better. This old Crapsman mower runs well, and I hate to junk it out. Used to be you could find this stuff at NAPA. I asked them to look for a flywheel pilot bushing that I could drill out, and the kid didn't know what I was talking about. Sure wish I had a lathe.
 
It shouldn't be too hard to find something like that. A bearing house should have bushings and some farm supply places also have racks with different size bushings. Dave
 
Ky, (hope that means Kentucky and not something else!) If you can find an old fashoned hardware store that has all those little drawers full of screws, fasteners, etc. they should be able to help you out. I was at such a store yesterday (in Denver) and they had those. I was looking for the same thing but in an odd size 7/8 x 3/4 which they didn"t have but they did have the 5/8 x 1/2. You can also get them through WW Grainger (www.grainger.com) stock # 3FJL5 There are two types: solid bronze and sintered bronze. The sintered are porous so that lubricating oil can pass through to the shaft.

The local Tractor Supply, which is normally a disappointment if you want anything besides what the suburbanites need on their "estates" has them and Lowes has them as well, sintered bronze bushings in single packs.
 
Try googling McMaster-Carr, they have individual bushings, with thrust collars, or 13" lengths of bushing stock. Are you sure its not an oil-lite bushing? (oil-lite is a porous cast product, that allows oil to stay in the pores, and lubricate the bushing.)
 
Lowes has a lot of small bushings, brass. In drawers near the bolt bins. I have used lots form there, or the one in E-town ky does. Rickey
