I have a 12 foot enclosed white aluminum that has set outside for a while under a tree (before I got it) and it's dingy looking, looks like it has been stained on the white sheet metal. I know the 18 wheelers use an acid wash occasionally to clean this off. I have scrubbed a couple of times using detergent and car wash soap but that didn't get much of it. Anyone know what to use and/or where to get it? |

| | I always had my aluminium end dump "whitened" (acidized) at the ol' Streakin' Beacon truck wash. When I needed to do welding repairs on it at home, I would pressure wash the area, then use a diluted muratic acid solution on it, then after sitting for a bit pressure wash again. The problem with using the acid wash is it will take the smooth shine off the aluminum, especially if it is polished. Most guys won't acidize a new trailer till it gets too looking pretty bad. An old rockhauler trick to the aluminium trailers is to have them washed and whitened, then immediatedly coat them with a strong mixture of Mop and Glow and water to seal the metal and keep them looking good for a long time. I always wanted to try it but never did. |

| try a product called crud cutter its used to wash alumium & vinal sideing. Purple Power also works very well use to wash grease motors and dirty 18 wheelers with it may need to mix with water to weaken . |

| Old Ford Mechanic is right. Acid wash is for bare/unpainted aluminum. Never, for any reason, use it on painted surfaces, unless you are going to repaint. Willie |

| Do not use acid wash if you want to keep that painted finish.Just one application will ruin it.Find some kind of soap to wash it with then use a polish to bring the shine back. The acid wash is for unpainted alumium. |

| rub'n compound and elbow grease are a wax/polish along with elbo grease
Acid wash are puple powere oxidize the paint ,,, works good but in a short time the shin will wash off and the paint surface will turn to dust,,, course you can do the acid wash and return the shin till all the paint is gone
I buy purple power concentrate 55 gal. at a time (the good stuff),,, $90 nanners,,, cleans chit but have learned were not to use it,,, a painted surface is not one of'em if I am look'n for longevity.
I do have the problem of iffin a little is good than moe is better,,, I don't cut it,,, use it straight,,, its mean |

| | You might try a home aluminum siding cleaner first, not as strong. Dusty |

| Boat places sell it for pontoons and aluminum boats. Comes in a powder that you mix in a sprayer. I believe it is MURATIC acid, but not positive on that...careful with it! |

| Hello DScott, Acid wash should do the trick, mix as per instruction, and will do an exellent job. If used frequetly acid will dull aluminum, but it sure cleans it though. Stay upwind from the spay it tickles pretty good! Guido. |
