My Craftsman floor jack has failed me for the last time. It has only been used a couple of times, but is several years old.

Who makes a GOOD reliable floor jack?
Any recommendations?

The local tire shop where i buy tires uses NAPA Jacks. They must have a dozen of them so I guess that is a recomendation if one exists. My 3 and 4 ton floor jacks are real old and I bought them from local IHC dealer back in the 1960's.Both have had the pumps worked on but after 40 some years that is no big complaint.Don't know the brand any more.Did IHC mfg. floor jacks back in the day? I have some IHC wrenches and socket sets from back then.

Yep, I feel for you. Good luck trying to collect on any Craftsman gaurantees it was sold under. They'll get out of them any way they can, usually by some version of; "Oh, (whatever part went faulty) isn't covered under the gaurantee."

My experience has been:

Question: "When is a gaurantee not a gaurantee?"

Answer: "When it's a Crafstman gaurantee."

I have had many craftsman tools over the years and when I break something I take it in and they hand me a new one with no questions asked. Must be your Local store.

You could look on Craigs list for your area. There are some companies that sell service station equipment.Im sure they have jacks but they wont be cheap even used, guessing 4 or 500 dollars for a good used heavy American made floor jack thats been rebuilt.Right now at Sears you can buy a 6 ton floor jack, jack stands and a creeper for 100 dollars.I have a floor jack just like the one Sears has on sale that Ive used a lot in the last 10 years.I know one thing that will mess up about any floor jack and that is to try and lift too much with it.If you try and lift a heavy loaded trailer or something you can ruin the seals in the pump part.

I Bought a 2 ton floor jack, 2 ton engine crane, 4 jack stands and a 1,500 pound engine stand about 16 years ago at Sam's Club. These all were American made by the EX-CELL corporation. They have been used extensively and not a problem with them.
Watch Craig's list, often times these things come up there at prices that are well better that repairing an old piece. I bought one of the fancy NASCAR style aluminum floor jacks for favorite daughter to carry in her car from Craig's list. This was still in the box and appeared to never been used. 10 bucks (and 12 miles travel to pick up). Lady I bought it from said her EX just had to have it and never used it, just sat on the shelf and she was getting rid of his s--t!

The one I have is one of the one-pump-to-frame Craftsman jacks. The pump seal has blown out on it. No-one has been able to find me the proper seal/o-ring to replace it. Even Sears does not have it. I have read that many other people who have this model have the same issue I am having. It is, unfortunately, not air in the hydraulics. It bleeds down when weight is on it.

Bottom line is that I no longer trust it so I wont use it. I have a much older Craftsman 3-ton jack that works great but the handle is messed up so it is a little challenging to lower it once it is pumped up.

If you only used the jack a couple of times in 3 years, it would be foolish to suggest a professional jack, use jack stands.

Probably just air. Search for repairing jacks. I have posted the cure here many times. Don't have time to do it today.

Have had a Craftsman floor jack for 30 years and is as good as the day I got it. You must have got a lemon.

you can still buy a hein warner, BUT they are like $500. I have a napa professional and one of my friends does too, his is a one-pump to frame deal and mine is not but they are both 3.5 ton units. we really like them, not cheap but you get what you pay for.

I have an old Hein Werner. Seal started leaking. I went to get one and they told me those jacks hadn't been made in years. They told me they were common size, so they took the seal I brought and matched it up. I worked good as ever.

I honestly lost track. I know Lincoln bought out Walker and HW back in the 90's, but kept the name. Unless something changed, they are still the same.
