Daughter is buying a new house and we are going to take a stab at installing hardwood flloring. It will be approx. 450/sq ft of area. We picked out a pre-finished white oak 3/4" thick.

I have been looking around for a floor stapler and the Bostitch MIIIFS seems to be the favorite for most. It's pricey at $480.00 locally and $380.00 on Ebay. There are a few knock-offs out there that are in the $150~$200 range.

I usually don't mind spending more for a quality tool and the fact is that depending on how well this effort goes I will probaly tackle installing hardwood in our house.

Any thoughts?

I am going to second the harbor freight air stapler, It comes with the hammer a small sample of staples and I think mine had a air hose, but it was one of thosecurly ones, use a straight air hose,,

I [well my nephews and son mostly-I have a bad leg]did the whole house 2 stories, with hardwood floor and that stapler worked great, I still have it.,could not rent it for the price and I was happy with the item, good luck, it takes ALOT longer than you think it will and remeber to stagger your joints, good luck, pat

I put down about 440sf of oak with a bostich manual floor nailer. Worked well. I got a refurb with hammer included for just under $100 on ebay with factory warranty. It could have passed for new. Sold it when I was done for about as much. Was hard work but it did the job.

Have you checked with flooring supplier???
Seems like my dad borrowed one from the lumber yard. Free if you buy materials there. I borrowed a nailed for shingling when I built our pole barn - same deal...

I purchased one off e-bay.It was a complete kit including hammer. Putting down <400 sq.ft took alot longer to do than I thought ( I guess I"m getting old) but if I rented the stapler it would have surpassed what I spent for it. The only thing that happened is some screws holding the handle assm. to the body got loose and caused some poorly seated staples. Once I realized what had happened I just tightened them up. I forget what brand (expect China)but it was a good deal

I installed about 800 sf of bamboo flooring in June '08 using a Harbor Freight stapler ($139). Couldn't rent one for that price and it did a fine job. Before I bought it I googled "harbor freight floor stapler" and determined the consensus is that it's a good unit for a DIYer and didn't find anybody that had any major problems with it.

Grizzly has great tools at great prices.
Another place to check are Pawn Shops. LOTS of good tools there these days.

Wife and I stopped and visited several pawn shops on our vacation this summer. Fellers runnin' them pawn shops are sure proud of their stuff lately. You'd think in hard times they'd drop their prices a little, but I didn't see it. This was in North Dakota and Minnesota.
