Building question

A friend of mine has asked me to "finish" the inside of her barn. She wants me to put plywood or maybe even sheet rock over the studs to cover the insulation
My question is about code. The upstairs is a finished room with heat/ac etc. The downstairs of the barn has 2 horse stalls and all the ultilities for the upstairs (furnace etc). What materials can i use/not use on the walls and ceiling downstairs.

Thanks
TOm

ps- Boone County, IN is the location

I would imaging what ever thickness sheetrock fire code reqired. 5/8" would be my guess.Would uyou want to live above a space that did NOT have firerated sheeting?

Sheet rock and hoses don't mix well they will have if ripped out fast. But you also have the other problem of the living space above them. Even 3/4 inch ply wood will not stand up to a horse if they kick, I know because I have a few holes in my stall sides from a horse kicking and even the best horse will kick from time to time

Thanks for the responses guys!

Old- I am not doing the stall they are already done and done very heavy duty. I will be doing the ceiling, tack rooms etc. so im not too worried.

The room is finished and sometimes is used as a livingquarters when they whole family is in town!

Thanks for everything, ya'll are the best!

If money were no concern i'd line the entire thing with six millimetre vapour barrier caulked and taped over the insulation then concrete board and use a mastic on all the joints. It's fireproof and will help the sound. On top of that I would use 3/4" plywood glued and screwed. A horse would sure take a piece out of that but it would be an easier repair then drywall.

I'm kinda with Case. 3/4" OSB plywood is about the cheapest and strongest thing around. Around $10 + at lowest or home cheapo. Sheetrock isn't very cheap anymore.
