I have two bottle jacks, one bleeds down with some weight, the other will not go up all the way. How much oil does one need, fill up to the plug on side, could this be a problen not enough oil. Also who makes a good 15 ton jack, thanks.

I bought 3 floor jacks at an auction for $3.00 each last year. I filled them with oil and they all work fine. I have a couiple bottle jack I will try msb's trick on.

In my opinion, unless you use it a lot, shop for price on bottle jacks. Harbor Freight or Northern Tool are good sources. If you take reasonable care of it, there is not a lot to go wrong with a jack.

I pay the rent at Harbor Freight. Good prices for items not used often or hard. BUT the tops of their jacks are poor quality cast iron. Never, ever try to jack unless perfectly vertical. Had one crack on me and could have been seriously injured or killed had I been careless or close. Better to pay a little more for a forged top flange on a tool like this.

Try this remedy: Close the valve and then pump the jack as high as it will go.Invert it and let it set upside down for a few moments. Then with the jack still inverted, open the valve and slowly push the bottom of the jack all the way down. Trapped air is the culprit here. This procedure allows the air to go to the bottom of the jack where it is then able to escape out the valve.I used to love going to auctions and buy "broken jacks".Then take them home and "repair" them in a couple minutes."Broken " jacks are rarely low on oil.Let me know if this cured your jack problems, bob.
