Wisconsin AENLD Questions - Never Run, So They Say...

But, how can I tell? The small engine shop said it was a display & never used. I bought a Kohler K341S at an auction 5 years ago with the same story. I removed the head on that one & lo & behold, no carbon! No gas or combustion smell, either. I removed the muffler from the Wisconsin & the combustion chamber still smelled like the showroom! Is a "virgin" engine possible twice in one's lifetime? Is it common to find an engine, with a few years behind it, that's never been run in the first place? How do I tell how old it is? Is it worth more sitting on a shelf or being used? What did it come off of? It's kind of oxide red (reddish-brown). No gas tank, no fuel pump & no starter. Well. it has the sheave for the pull rope, but it also has a mount for a starter/generator. There's an ignition coil on top by the spark plug, an oil bath air cleaner that's routed to come out almost directly over the sheave, an ignition timer - no mag, a 7" spoked v-belt pulley behind the sheave, a 4 3/4"L x 1 1/4" dia. shaft on the other side, a screw in dipstick & a Bendix carb. There's also no place to hook up a throttle cable & no hand throttle on the engine, anywhere. I was thinking of either using it to repower my original Cub Cadet or just put it up on a shelf, somewhere. What's it worth? I have someone interested in buying it, but he's only willing to pay $75 for it. I'm no small engine afficianado, but that sounds a bit low to me. Any info would greatly be appreciated. Sorry about the windy post. Thanks - Mike
