Not sure you care or if it is a sign of bigger issues, but in classic view, buickdeere"s reply is attributed to the wrong previous post. Popinjohn isn"t even an author in the thread... Howard |

| Howard,
I did find this. It happens when people change the subject on Modern View. We've been plagued with this since we linked the old software with the modern software. If it's done by editing the original post on Modern View, it splits threads on classic view and makes quite the mess. If it's done on a reply, it appears that this anomaly you saw, is what occurs. I'm considering just disabling the ability to change a subject after a thread has started. That capability is often just used to add content to the post, which is better done within the text of the post itself. No fix yet, but we are thinking about which path we want to take on it.
Thanks for pointing it out,
Chris |

| Now I see what you mean, there are several in that thread. The Classic view is pulling the wrong username up under some condition. I've not seen that before but there should be enough info there to follow up. It's not the post though, just the information being pulled out.
I am guessing we will find one two possibilities. One of the other forums and that forum have crossed thread numbers and the lookup is grabbing the name based on the other forum. This can happen as the post numbers are not unique system wide on classic view. Some of our code makes that assumption as if they were. The other is that the thread subject was changed about halfway through. That causes problems in the lookup of the base thread name. That could have been happening all along and I'd never notice. The problems look like they start with the sub-thread that has been changed to "6V...are NOT the same". Personally I'd just disable changing the thread topic mid-stream. It always causes problems.
It would be interesting to look at the other thread you saw this happen on.
Thanks,
Chris |

| I now see what your talking about Howard, only visible in Classic, since Modern removes that bit of info. Very interesting indeed.
What say you, Chris ? |

| | It is not a big deal to me either way, but it is still there from my viewing angle. As a long time IT guy/programmer, I just found it very interesting from that standpoint and thought you might be interested in it, too... I've noticed other examples (like 2 down - I don't see any other post by JRSutton in this thread, either), but this is the one I was talking about:

| Chris , I looked at that thread just a few minutes after Howard posted this and saw the same thing your seeing now. I couldn't figure out what he thought the problem was then. There was nothing mentioned about PopinJohn. BTW, I looked at it in both Modern and Classic. |

| I have seen threads clobbered before when the subject was changed (which it was in that thread), but in this case, I couldn't find anything that looked out of order. I didn't find a reference to popinjohn and B&Ds posts all look like they were on-topic.
There may have been a post in there that was deleted which I didn't see since I didn't notice your post here until today. If so, I won't be able to track what happened as it's gone now.
Thanks,
Chris |
