Chris
I just switched to a new computer with Windows 7 Pro. I posted a couple of parts schematics to different threads and now I can't get a picture on another thread. When I browse the picture comes up but when I click "continue" it never displays in the thread. I tried several different photos. I checked and I'm fairly confident the photo wasn't too large.
Thanks,Jim |

| I thought I'd post what we found out on this in case others have the same problem. It turns out there was a version of Firefox, that has a bug when trying to submit a file to a web server. A quick way to tell if this is a problem for you, is to use Internet Explorer and retry the photo upload. If it works, upgrade Firefox to the latest version. Thanks to Jim for helping find this.
Another issue that came up in this thread was that Sweetfeet mentioned that png files don't work. I meant to support them and will work on that because png is an important open standard. It does let you submit them, it just doesn't convert them correctly so they never display. For now jpg and gif work and will avoid that problem. |

Thanks to you,Sweetfeet & everyone that helped me. Now I going to try Chrome to see if it will work and if so I'll dump Firefox.

| From what I was reading, the problem was solved so maybe an upgrade will fix it. I actually tend to like Firefox over IE or Chrome since Microsoft and Google both openly try to bend the web to their "features" such that other products appear not to work. I don't have a machine working to test the different versions right now, but I will try to get an old box working next week. A problem like this is rare and fleeting, it happened with one version of IE too. |

My photo down/up loading is to the point with your help I can make it work. I just have to post photos on IE instead of Firefox. My daughter suggested I try Chrome but I like Firefox. How can I determine which Firefox my new computer is running?
Thanks again for all your help,Jim |

| Normally there is an about on the help menu. It seems these new windows presentations sometimes have the menus turned off and I'm not sure in that case. |

My daughter convinced me to try Chrome. The same photo that wouldn't upload with FF uploaded with Chrome. It may be my imagination but I think Chrome reacts faster than FF. |

| And while you are looking at the file check that it is 299K or below.
My guess is that the upload is working fine, but the browser is refusing to let the script put the command into the post. What browser is it, Internet Explorer? |

| Firefox shouldn't be a problem, possibly security software. The download works, but the script that fills in the post may be being rejected by the security software and it doesn't permit the url to get put in the post. I've done what I can to stop these "protectors" from doing that, but it seems they still do it under some sorts of options.
There is one other possibility that can happen. If after you hit the continue, you click back into the post window, it can stop the script from filling in the URL thinking you are taking control of the window again. I've seen that happen. |

I tried to download a photo again and this popped up.
Problem uploading.
Sorry, the upload didn't work. The file you uploaded is no longer available. This normally means that upload did not deliver the file to the server. Go back and try it again in case it was a momentary network issue. If the problem happens again, please contact us as it may be something we can fix.
Sweetfeet suggested it could also be a security problem but I don't have a clue how to fix it. |

| Well, having an error message is a good start. I can dig through the code and find out just what it means. This was on modern wasn't it?? |

| Jim,
I just looked up the message and it still could be either a size or a security issue. I tested myself using my photos and there wasn't a problem, so let's get that one out of the way first. Can you email me the photo and I'll try uploading it first. If that works then I'll have to figure out what combination of security software you have might be blocking what is called an "iframe".
Thanks,
Chris |

| | Tx Jim, Any chance the photo is saved in an unacceptable format? One program of mine default-saves them as PNG files which will not upload on YT. I have to remember to click on the down arrow and selct JPEG when saving the photo file. Just a thought, as it has happened to me... then thinking what IS the problem? Look at the file - yep PNG. Resave as JPEG, then no problem uploading. |
