Having trouble with the aftermarket electrical components? I am restoring this M and wanted as close to original as I could get it. I purchased a 12 volt coil, a off on switch and a starter switch. The coil was dead as a hammer, then when I got it started with a automotive coil it would run and intermitanly die which I traced to the push pull switch, then today when I tried to start it the starter switch went up in smoke. All this junk cost a pretty penny and I am dissappointed in it to say the least. |

Well you first before you walk out of the store look at where it was made. If it says China on the box set it down and walk away till you find something made in the U.S.A. or believe it or not Japan. Now days Japan makes some of the best electrical stuff out there.

I think if you wanted to restore as orinigal you should keep it six volt. That may what burned up your starter.

Go back and reread what he said. He DID NOT SAY STARTER. He did say a new starter switch burned up and the ignition switch but he did not say his starter had any problems at all. Plus like JMOR said a 6 volt starter will work for decades on 12 volts. ALL my tractors are on 12 volts and none that I know of have 12 volt starters and some I have owned for 30 years

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeNo, Sir, those old 6v starters work just fine on 12v, for decade after decade.
