after driving for a short while the abs and brake warning light shows on the dash. can feel the brakes holding the truck back, and yesterday when I stopped in a shop for a couple of min's, the brakes locked up. I believe this was just on the rear axle as it did not affect steering at all. Any ideas folks. Thanks in advance for your time. |

| The first thing I would check is the e-brake. Pull the rear drums and see if the shoes are touching all "around" the anchors at the top. If they aren't, your parking strut is tight which means your e-brake cable is sticking. If it's one side, it's that cable. If it's both sides it's either both cables or the front cable. If you have rear disc with caliper actuated parking brake, diagnose the same way. If your release releases, it doesn't mean the brakes release. Hope this helps. Gerard |

| Another possibility. Uneven pressure can trigger a warning light. Hot brake can cause expansion causing uneven reading in ABS sensors. Gain access to an infra-red thermometer. Might be able to beg, borrow, rent, steal, or if all else fails, buy one. it will come in handy for many other uses. As a prep exercise, make sure you can open all your bleeder valves. Next time the problem happens, shoot the temp of all 4 brakes. Open the bleeder on whichever brake is hot. If fluid spits out & brake releases, chances are that the hose between frame & caliper/cylinder is swelled shut on the inside. Master cyl pressure can force fluid toward brake, but swelled hose won't let it return. Had it happen on both fronts on my RV. Willie |

| WAY too many reasons for your prob. 1993 ford--? prob. no obd 1 codes to help you diagnose abs--drum brake on rear--rotors on front--sure about year? drive until condition happens---Quickly-- jack up truck & Turn wheels to see whats dragging it down--smell for hot brakes, etc |

Check to see if the calipers are hanging up. Might need new ones. |
