I've got a '66 4020 and the synchro-range transmission is getting hard to shift. All the gears are there and work just fine. I'm guessing the synchronizers are worn out. From what I can tell in the service manual, it looks like the whole rear end of the tractor has to be disassembled to get the shafts out of the transmission. I'd appreciate any advice or input on this matter. Thanks. |

| The synchros are on the top shaft. They help select high (3,5,7,8); low(1,2,4,6); and reverse. A top shaft overhaul requires a single split in front of the transmission and removing the hitch cover. The ranges are not synchronized and are selected on the bottom (pinion) shaft. A bottom shaft overhaul requires removal of both axles and differential, as well as the top shaft. Can't remember if the bottom shaft shifter cam can be removed with the top shaft and its shift cam already out, but I think so. |

| Sorry for bad spelling. Dad and me can't get the ball hitch off of our truck. We used the wrench made for it, but when we turned it, the everything moved with it. We tried WD-40, and made no differences. We tried to hold the ball part, and turn it, still no results. He tried to get the hitch holder off, the pin is stuck. Have any help please E-mail me by 9 tonite, in CDT. |
