Have a D17 series 5 every time engage PTO can smell something like a clutch burning am not familiar with the hand clutch system on this tractor was wondering if there was adjustment for the PTO or clutch. Clutch does not slip or the PTO works good when fully engaged it"s just when slowly letting out the clutch to get the PTO to start to spin. is when it smells like the clutch is burning. And I read in some of the forums that you can shift from 1st to reverse just using the hand clutch is this true. |

| You meant series III? Anyway, the pto engages with a sliding spline- no clutch plates. Foot clutch has dry plates, hand clutch runs in oil. Foot clutch has typical adjustment possible. Shifting with the hand clutch- can do it with a worn one, but was not intended to be operated that way. |
