I'm starting to assemble different parts of my MM/Twin City KTA. Like many old tractors the rad is made up of a cast upper and lower tank, and two cast supports on the side. The radiator core fits in the centre of these. Apart from the copper flange on the core, what gasket material can be used to seal the gap between the core and the tanks?
When I took it apart whatever was there had disintegrated.

Regular old gasket material should work. If the metal is horribly pitted then maybe a slightly thicker material and a little RTV should do it. If it still weeps a little then after you get it running you can throw some radiator leak stopper in it and that should seal up any remaining leaks.

RTV? Is that a brand name flange sealant? Thanks for the help.

It is just gasket stuff in a tube. It is simply a silicone type stuff that you squeeze out of a tube and then slap the parts together. I try to avoid using it since it is a mess to get apart, but occasionally I don't have much choice.

The gasket sealer works great. I prefer the powder stuff that comes in a tube about the size of a penny roll. You dump it in and warm the tractor up. You can actually see the leaks stop oozing.
