W4 magneto conversion troubles

I am converting my 1947 W4 back to magneto power. Put a new coil and the condenser and points looked to be changed recently before I got it. it is back on and nothing.

I don't want lights on the tractor and i don't want the starter (even with the battery i hand cranked it fine), just the bare minimum to get it in the field. Do i have to wire the condenser back up? where does the wire go when it leaves the condenser terminal? do i need the relay and all that? shoudl i not just be able to run the tractor with nothing but the mag wired to the plugs?

The magnet is magnetic still but i don't seem to be getting any spark. the manual says it does not need recharging, is that true?

Also my new cap does not fit, it is the proper one but the rotor must be out too far as the center brush is making too much contact, rubbing right on the cap not the brush. How to do I adjust the rotor, I could not seem to take it off.

Thanks

The grass is growing around the W4 and my neighbours planted weeks ago! help!

Inside the mag, the coil wire, the insulated breaker point, and the condensor lead all connect to a common point.

Whatever you do, there must be NO battery power connected to the mag, only a "kill switch" that grounds out the mag to shut down the engine.

Any connection to battery power will "fry" your new magneto coil.

A magneto is a self contained ignition unit, there should already be a condensor inside the mag. No other power source is needed. The only other connection you need to make is to the magneto kill switch, which looks similar to the ignition switch you already have, but is different, and the one you have won't work with a magneto.

Can't be much help but yes you need a conmdenser, the pig tail from the condenser goes to the terminal on the points. With out a condenser you will not get much if any spark
