I think a D17 will make you a great pulling tractor! There is many ways to build one, lots of options. Gas or diesel? The little 4 cyl engine can be made up to 500 cu. (if you are serious) And you can put the 301 or 426 in the Diesel. |

| Since nobody answered the wide front Q yet , I will. Obviously weighs a little more but biggest problem is when you get the front up and it goes to either side a little you will be allready pretty close to the out of bounds line. You have no room to swing it and you can't allways make a perfect straight pull. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya got ta do to break that boat loose. Some have limit to how much they will let ya dance but reason and safety must prevail. Wide front gives you not much room for error. |

| If it was mine I would throw everything in front of the crank away! Weld on a combine front (solid). Two more frame rails is just about the right length for your frame and will just bolt right on. In the Hook Archives there should be a article about building a 160 hp small block AC. Pay attention to these guys talking about lerois. (the best head). Probably better to buy a engine from someone, like about 400 cu. Look back here, there is a lot about building allis's. May need modern view to look back. Vic |
