Obviously "Open" in the context of our rules does not mean "anything goes".This tractor pull is a once a year event that directly benefits(fund raiser) the local Expo Fair Board. The Fair is a traditional summer 4H/FFA event for the local youth. I have sole responsibility for interpreting/enforcing the rules, that have been in place since the inception of the pull over 20 years ago. I inherited this responsibility from my deceased father. The local Expo Board members and community volunteers are great about supporting the pull with a great deal of labour hours. Our priorities for the event are safety, consistency and creating an inviting environment for the continued success of the event. We don't have club politics or annual rules meetings voted on by small numbers of local pullers. The rules have remained largely untouched since their creation. I try to be as fair as possible to each and every puller and will seek out experts when I need to for specific makes/models when something comes up that I don't know. We always apply common sense to the interpretation of the rules in order to be as fair as possible. Above all, if anyone has questions/suggestions, I am always available at the end of the track checking the RPM of each and every tractor after they pull. |
