Is the lighter tractor classes starting to be dropped to accommodate the bigger smoker tractors. Obviously more people wanna see those and thats what bring in the crowds and the$$$. So wants again the clubs and associations leave the old school, way it got started, pushed back in the fence rows.

At most pulls up here in Vermont, and New Hampshire most pulls start at 2500 or 2650 3000, then 500 lbs. up to 5000, then 1000lbs on up to 14,000 sometimes 16,000. The bigger classes 9,000 on up are getting a little thin, 2500 to 5000 are pretty crazy. The biggest being 3500-4500. Hey the trophy is the same size at 2500 as 12,500., it sure cost a lot less to haul it around behind a Dodge Dakota than a D21 hooked to a 3500 Dodge Ram, and a 14,000 lbs. trailer.I hope the small classes will always be there for the kids and the folks who can't afford the big stuff, and all that go with it. Happy Holidays to you all ........

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

It has gotten pretty unusual to see a farmer drive in to the pull on his tractor. "straight out of the field stock" Right? One guy won the heaviest two classes every year, without even adding front weights. But his dealer told me that the 135 HP tractor broke his dyno at 225 when he first got it in from out west. I have to look around for someone to pull against, by recruiting someone with an antique or borrowing another 1,000 lbs to get up to a heavier class. I wouldn't have it except that it was pretty much given to me and I don't get begged to come because it makes a lot of smoke.

Around here any class where the tractor can be hauled behind a mini van SUV or pickup with a bumper hitch is loaded with competitors.

The light classes are growing every year in my area too. We also start at 2500# and run USAP rules with multiple speeds. Most folks are building light pullers now because they are much easier to haul, less weight to move and you get to pull early in the order. The 3500-4500# classes have really heated up in the past few years. The number of tractors in each class starts to thin out pretty quick past 6000#. We have heavy classes too, even up to 12,000# but very, very few tractors and dwindling more every year. At our spring pull there were no entries above 9000#.

The lighter classes is where we are growing the fastest in our club. We have more 3,000# pullers than any other class. Lot"s at 2,500&3,500 as well.4,000 is a little weak but we have good numbers again at 4,500. The lighter classes allow a guy with a half ton pickup & a car hauler type trailer to play. Kip

In W. Pa. there is 3 clubs that start at 2500 or 2750. The next classes are 3000,3250,&3500. All 3 clubs have good participation in the light classes. In my opinion the people in these classes throw less weight per class and have just as much FUN.

They did that at our local county fair, I'm sure it hurts them when they pay out top 3 and only 3 are entered.

Droping the lighter classes is a mistake, these classes are predominately beginners and youngsters, we need to keep them to keep feeding the sport.

Hi
Maybe the kids and new guys are kicking granpa's butt and someone don't like it. so by dropping the classes it will solve one problem. but create another in 10 years when the older guys are gone and no body comes up to replace them.
Our local thresher mans reunion is run like this and it's on it's knees praying for a miracle right now sadly.
Regards Robert

Around here 3500 is a little thin, but 4000 to 6500 is where all the tractors are. Very few bigger ones.
