ih1566 11-13-2012 14:58:47 98.132.231.144 Report to Moderator	Im building farmall m tractor to do a little pulling and ive got a new reproduction farmall 450 lp head and manifold, farmall 400 motor, 400 crankshaft , stock 400 cam, 450 carb, 400 govenor,electronic ignition, and i plan on putting the 4 1/8 inch overbore that has the stepped head high compression piston from A&I Products in this block, and using stock stroke! does anyone have any idea on what kind of power im looking at here??and will i have to cut a little off of the top of the piston due to clearence issues ? my M now has flat top pistons in it now with the 4 inch over bore and the 8060 head with the (lp manifold) and it made a solid 50 horse after new plugs a good carb cleaning and adjusting the timing . any help with be helpful! thanks for looking! ih1566 11-14-2012 18:27:58 98.132.231.144 Report to Moderator	Re: farmall m pulling tractor build in reply to ChadS, 11-14-2012 10:16:29   i had hopes of using the farmall 400 block i had all ready to go on the engine stand but after washing the outside of the block with the pressure washer i relized i had a 6 inch crack along side the block that went all the way through and craked over into the center main and center camshaft bearing , so i decided i just use a different block.so i dug out a M block out of the shed that has no cracks and the outside of the cylinders arent to rusty . i planned on getting this block bored to run 450 pistons and sleeves , but could i go as far as 4.35 bore with this M block and what kinda money do pistons and sleeves that size run for ? You will have to bore the block to fit in the 450 sleeves which the OD is 4.25. Dad n I used to make tall domed 450 piston n sleeve sets, that used a .500 tall dome. I think I still have a set here if youd like to see em. Ive seen em dyno 75hp with a 8060 head n 450 cam. seen em dyno over 85 with the LP head on high octane fuel. It aint no 600ci billet monster, but makes for a mean 281ci motor. Hope this helps. Chad [Reply]  [No Email]

They are conformatic pistons. Where the flat part of the piston meets the flat part of the head,(8060 gas head anyway) there is raised lettering on the piston that says "front" with an arrow. When hot, this raised lettering would touch. I would have the raised lettering milled off. A good rule of thumb is to put the head on the block without a gasket and turn it over. If it will roll over without lifting the head, then you are good. The stock gasket is about .065 - .070". That clearence will likely be reduced by .020" when hot. With the 8060 head milled .050", and those pistons, I have 150psi and it likes 91 octane fuel. You will likely need 93 or better with your LP head. [Reply]  [No Email]
