Josh I replaced my 36 A gears with 38 gears bout 15 years ago. Don"t remember all the details but had a 38 and took the countershaft and some of the gears and made 3rd and 4th slower. By looking at parts book 410000-450503 had faster gears and 450504 up had slower gears. Lynn

Josh I think it was mid 37 the change was made. Looking at parts book some more the difference is the countershaft having 17 and 25 and going to 19 and 25 and the overdrive gear and shaft going from 28 to 26. This only affects 3rd and 4th gears. Lynn

nebraska test says it's 2.5 in first,3.5 in second and 4.5 in 3rd with stock tires my calculator says with 16.9 x 38 tires 1243 rpm will get you 5 in second . if 5 will get it done it would be 2nd for me .

Josh i i have a 38 with the "slow" reduction gears but when i changed from the "fast" or unstyled gears i only slowed down by .5 mph. so with the "slow gears and 15.5s i am running right at 3.8 mph at 1100 rpm in 3rd gear. not sure it this helps you but that is the diffrence in the gears in the same tractor with smaller tires.
