This Econoline 9 ton tri axle had less than 10k miles on it. The rim blew in half while going down tne road. This 14.5x8 8 hole rim rusted thru on a trailer that was only acoule of years old. The local industrial supplier said the DOT number was for an open center rim not this rim. I called Econoline and they went on the defensive and would not give me any information or help. I have been advised by the dealer who sold me the trailer to contact the NTSB before someone else isn't so lucky. If you have a rim like this get it checked out! We just spent 1400 dollars changing over to 16 inch rims and tires for safety sake. Econoline told me tough sh*t but they would sell me more junk rims!!! Cory |

| Cory, I'm Joe Laseter with Econoline Trailer. First of all I would just like apologize for the service you recieved,if that's what was said to you. I will take care of that problem myself. Customer satifaction is our #1 goal. Secondly I would like for you to give me a call @800-624-1866. If there is a problem with a trailer, I want to know about it. This trailer must be several years old, because we actually use a different wheel now which is a white powder coated wheel. But again I still would like to here from you. Sorry for the inconvenience and the service you recieved. Again that will be handled and thanks for the information. Joe Laseter |

| Where is the DOT? Wheels and tires alike should have a dot number on them for just so incidences. |

| I just had the same thing happen to me with my spare rim for my trailer. The rim broke just like the pic, but it was a truck rim I used for a spare. My problem is when it went under back axle it bent it, the frame, broke welds on goose neck. The insurance co. totaled it, now I have to look for a new trailer. Any good trailer companys out there. Liked my old one so this sucks for me, plus no trailer for last month. |

| | Like 504 said, that IS an open center rim, but they welded a center in it. That can't be legal. I wonder if Econoline does that in-house, or they buy them from a supplier? Either way, they set themselves up for a lawsuit. I've never owned an Econoline, but I have looked them over pretty well, and imho, they're one of the worst built trailers out there. |

| I don't condone suing over every little thing, but I would contact a good attorney. It could be the start of a class action suit to help out all the other owners so they do not have to pay for replacements out of pocket, or worse yet be sued when themselves when it gives out and causes a serious injury or death to another motorist on the road. The company needs to be help liable, and the reason they were so defensive is because they knew about it and some one called them on it. There is absolutely no excuse for a manufacturer to cut corners like that. |

| We have a lone wolf triple axel trailer with the same rims. Those are factory wheels not a hack job. I've never had a problem out of ours, but anything can happen at anytime. Looks like the rim split, not the center falling out?? That could have happened on an open center rim too. It was probablly a defect from the factory. Glad nobody got hurt. |

| | I'm guessing that the continuous-bead welding of the center caused the metal around the weld to oxidize...and that after welding, the rim wasn't properly coated. It looks as if it was simply painted, instead of maybe being sandblasted [or at least vigorously wire-brushed, preferrably by machine] and powdercoated, like a conventional automotive-style "painted" rim. But that's just a guess based on looking at a photograph over the internet, rather than seeing the actual rim "up close and personal." |
