No, because there is almost always rust under the paint, and the paint on old tractors usually does not have primer. Remove the old paint and rust and use epoxy primer. Exceptions to that are if the tractor has been painted a few years ago, and the painter did a good job -- those are rare. |

| I have to agree with CNKS on this one. What's the chances that those castings went directly from foundry to cleaning and then to paint??? Zero! Probably a stock piole of them made ahead and we all know how fresh cast flash rusts. JD used a buff primer on their castings but who knows on IH. Why blast all the other parts and not the cast? Is it in that good of shape after all these years that you can just paint over existing paint? No scrapes or rust at all? If it is that good then by all means just paint it. |
