Hello guys,
I'm painting rear wheels on my ford 3600. I have already primed them with rustoleum rust primer and was going to use the tractor supply brand paint called Majestic NH white in aerosol can. But I read that they(tractor supply) and lowes have a better paint for this. Would ya'll use aerosol or go with something else. I don't have a paint gun.
Thanks,
JT90 |

| Don't you have any kind of auto parts store near you. Or a walmart, lowes, meeks, home depot? If you are set on clear coat, you would do better with Krylon, Rust-Oleum or Crystl Clear enamel or urethane over your white. |

I'm just saying I would, just for a little better protection against scratches and so on.
Here is their website. A lot of marketing but no technical.
Website says 7 days wait time to apply clear lacquer.
I've never sprayed paint made from soybeans before so "I know nothing" :)

The paint is Tractor Alkyd Enamel 8-22967 out of a spray can and the clear is lacquer 8-22999. They don't tell you much on directions and that's why I called the company. I ask him how long to wait because I had read on this forum that it would wrinkle. They were the one's that said wait a week or it would wrinkle. This is why I'm asking because I don't want to mess up what I have already done.
Really, you think I should put 2 more coats on rims

| Looks like you're doing a real nice job. I've never heard of waiting a week to clear coat. That method would certainly kill a production shop. What's the directions say? |

I just looked at their website. You don't say what the type of paint you're using.
I'm assuming you are using their Tractor Alkyd Enamel and the clear he sold you is a Lacquer base. That is why he said wait a week. If the lacquer penetrate into the enamel, it will wrinkle. This combo never worked for me...but...Don't get the clear overly wet. Just enough to get gloss. If you have to put on a second coat, I'd wait until the first coat is completely dry to the touch. |

On second thought, I wouldn't clear coat unless you use enamel clear or urethane. The lacquer clear will yellow faster than if you just leave it white...but...If you rattle canned the white, you need two more coats. While aerosols are quick and easy, you don't get enough paint build up or mil thickness as a spray gun.

| Majic only paint near me. Going to try it. Upload pic's when done. Done a test spot on the fender and it looks good. It's a working tractor but both tires went bad so I thought I would paint wheels. They looked real bad so anything will help. |

| Finished second coat of paint on rims. Look ok. The guy in customer service for Majes paint said wait one week before clear coating. Thought I would mount the tires first then clearcoat.
Would ya'll clearcoat or just let it go. First time trying to upload pictures. |

| I recently repainted a tiller using TSC's spray can paint. I dont know what the fade or wearing longevity is on it but was shocked at the finish it had once dry. Super glossy and smooth. Couldnt believe it. |

| The new Magic paint has not been getting very good reviews, but for wheels I don't see it making a big difference, and whit isn't going to fade much. |

| As far as rattle can paint goes, I've had pretty good luck with rustoleum white paint. |
