I'm sure its been covered but I am going to get paint this week to paint it. I have it pretty much clean and am close to getting it to paint. Where do you guys recommend to get paint? I'm on a budget, and I don't want a show room piece. I have heard mixed about TSC paint but I might be using their stop rust primer. I need to get it for a Super M. Thanks in advance. |

Dealer paint is pretty decent compared to farm store paint. I would NEVER go through the work to fix up a tractor and then paint it with farm store paint. Epoxy primer...Gordo and CNKS do some SERIOUS surface prep and it sounds like you are doing a scuff and shoot. Not as critical in that type of application.

Epoxy primer is the best primer. Alkyd enamel is the worst paint. IH 2150 is an "acrylic modified" alkyd enamel, meaning it has UV inhibitors in it. It is a few steps above the straight alkyd enamel.

I would use automotive paints however if you need to save money I wouldn't use tractor supply paint. I would buy a can of rattle can paint and make color samples and go to a major paint company like Sherwin Williams and get their best alkyd enamel. They can computer match any color.

I would like to hear other ideas on using John Deere "buff primer" under I H 2150. Maybe I got lucky , but have had very good luck going that way with that combination. My sheet metal was rusty , cup brushed it good , then used the J D primer . That was several yrs. ago , still looks very good and shiny. clint

Grt your primer, EPOXY, from a body shop supplystore. A little more but the primer is the heart of a paint job. Then go ahead and use the modifgied acrylic enamel from IH, 2150 with hardener you get from that body shop store. Not a lot, 8:1. Use a good mask, paint outdoors , and paint downwind, early in the morning and wet the floor, driveway or plastic, down before you start.
