38F-20 06-18-2012 14:16:17 50.82.60.201 Report to Moderator	I have read a few older posts couldn't answer my question. I have my Farmall F-20 comletely clean of heavy grease. I want to powerwash it one more time before sandblasting strictly to remove a light film of oil in a few spots. I want all of the oil off the castings to not drive it into the pores of the metal when blasting. I wanted to ask, will Gunk Engine Brite leave a film on the metal that after sandblasting, paint won't stick to? I know this sounds a little overboard, but I just want to check. I thought even if it did leave any residue, the film of degreaser would come off with the sandblasting or wax and grease remover prior to paint. Am I correct in thinking this? Or is oven cleaner a better choice? I'm using a commercial sandblasting unit and will be spraying PPG Omni in a full booth. This is my first tractor and the guy with the booth wanted me to look into other types of degreaser. Thank you for your help. [Reply]   [No Email]

Are there any types of degreaser available that do not leave a film, or should I plan on cleaning it with thinner anway? I had heard of Simple Green but didn't know much else about it. glennster 06-20-2012 14:03:20 75.63.53.143 Report to Moderator	Re: Degreaser Film? in reply to 38F-20, 06-20-2012 12:14:12   save the thinner wash for after sandblasting. you can use simple green or purple power cleaner before to degrease,then pressure wash. use a blow gun and get the water off right away to avoid any flash rust. then blast, thinner wash and prep for paint. glennster 06-18-2012 14:32:09 75.63.53.143 Report to Moderator	Re: Degreaser Film? in reply to 38F-20, 06-18-2012 14:16:17   yup, gunk will leave a film. load your paint spray gun with cheap lacquer thinner, then turn the pattern knob all the way in till you get a tight pattern, then wash the tractor down with it. just before spraying, do the same with some pre-cleano type wax and grease remover. it will get all the residue out and not leave anything.
