Beta 03-21-2012 05:40:40 97.75.67.82 Report to Moderator	I'm looking at having a sandblasting company blast my Ford 6610. It has 3 flaking coats of paint on it and needs another so I want to get it down to bare metal, prime and paint. I will disassemble down to a basic chassis with ho sheetmetal, wiring, radiator, etc. before taking it to them. They suggested steel "shot" media instead of sand because it is reusable and thus less expensive than sand. Has anyone here had experience with steel media? I want to trust these guys because that is all they do and they can use sand if I prefer at a greater cost. It will then be immediately primed and painted so I'm not worried about rust formation. Sheet metal will be handled by a body shop. What are your thoughts? [Reply]   [No Email]

Most foundaries/forges have shot blast tumblers where they clean off the parts. On a modern tractor there is a very good chance they have been through the process once. My buddies FIL worked at a foundary near us and we did 90% of the cast parts on his planter using the tumbler. [Reply]  [No Email]

As for blasting with it - I've never done it, but have heard of others using it. I think you're fine as long as they're not doing sheet metal, which would warp. [Reply]  [No Email]
