I've been working on re-painting a Farmall H, using Iron Guard primer and paint from Case/IH. I've got all the rust stripped off the clutch housing. Should I prep and prime it now before the flash-rust forms, or wait until there's no condensation in the AM? Will the primer protect against the condensation that shows up every morning in the garage?

| What are your thoughts on blasting and priming then tearing down for inspection/seal repairs. Then scuff prime/surfacer etc and paint.

| I wouldn't worry about it. I would get it all cleaned up, then acid wash it to neutralize any rust that has formed. The acid wash will neutralize the flash rust in seconds. Then you just wash it off and wipe dry with something like final prep.

| For that primer I would prime now. CNKS is correct the epoxy primer is best but everyone has to make their own choice. The epoxy primer is a lot more expensive and comes with a recoat window. If you primed it now you would have only a few days to topcoat it.

| The only waterproof primer is epoxy. My suggestion is use epoxy and then topcoat within the time frame given on the spec sheet. I am only familiar with PPG Omni MP 170, you have 48 hours (at 70 degrees) to topcoat it, or it has to be scuffed and reapplied. Others will vary as to the length of the window. The IH primer will not help prevent rust under your conditions.

| A scotchbrite pad, or something similar. But, I have never had to do that. I always try to leave time to topcoat the same or next day.
