I have an orginal raditor on my Jubilee, copper top is tarnished and the raditor fins have a greenish stain. I want to paint it with black enamel. Do I need to do anything to the raditor before painting it?? Thanks for you help in advance.

Do not use regular spray can paint as it will make the radiator run hotter.

There is a special radiator paint that allows heat transfer.

Eastwood has it.

Sometimes a greenish stain is an indication of corrosion due to a leak. To be on the safe side I would take it to a radiator shop to do a pressure test for any leaks. How was the flow? If it's never been cleaned it may need to be rodded out. Tell them you'll paint it yourself. Be careful of the fins, they can be fragile.

Thanks, doesn't leak, runs ok, engine doesn't over heat. Raditor looks alittle rough, carefully streightened some fins. I plan on painting over the stain with a black enamel, hope it works.

Is there any special prep (primer?) needed before I paint it?

You want to use flat black paint because it radiates heat better.

About all you can do with a radiator is wire brush the tanks and blow out the core and spray the paint to it.
