61-4010 07-01-2009 11:44:46 74.171.25.210 18882 Report to Moderator	Greetings everyone. I'm in the final stages of completing a complete restore of my 1961 JD 4010D. Machine is going to be a work tractor but obviously I want it to look good too (well until the first working dent/scratch). Anyway, using PPG Concept for my paint and PPG Epoxy Primer for the base. Is turning out well....some (very little) orange peel and runs but overall it looks good. On the final coat of the PPG Concept, I mix in some PPG Clearcoat to help give it a deeper gloss and higher protection. Now I'm wondering....should I spend the time to go over the machine with 2000 grit wet/dry paper, compound and polish it. Debating as that's a ton of work especially with all the nooks and small areas to get around. So I ask you....what do you do? I'm pondering just doing this on the large sheet metal items but not the cast, etc. [Reply]   [No Email]
glennster 07-01-2009 13:47:07 99.135.95.186 18883 Report to Moderator	if you are happy with it the way it is, dont buff, but if you really want it to "pop", wet sand and buff the tinwork. i just finished a farmall m a little while ago and did the tractor in single stage crossfire. did the wet sand and buff on the hood, gas tank and grille, really brought out a nice shine. yup, its a little extra work, but sure looks nice. i used a small air powered buffer, runs about a 5 inch pad. nice for small parts.   [Reply]   [Send Email]
