Hello everyone!
I’m in the local Boy Scouts and I am planning to restore a Crabb Sawmill. I've never heard of the company and I do not know anything about the sawmill. If you could link me to a web site or have any info dealing with the Crabb Company it would be much appreciated!

Thank You!!
Matt

What information do you need and how far along are you? I just may be able to fill in some info gaps. Incidentally, yes the engine and the mill are connected, both built by Isaiah Crabb in West Union Iowa. Later moved to Independence IA. which was later bought out by Milo Schnoor of Schnoor Sawmill in Vinton IA, survived by his widow Loretta Schnoor who cleared out years later. I ended up with blueprints and a large quantity of casting patterns of the sawmills.(There were 3 models of which the common smaller model was the last marketed.) I am not sure what all I salvaged at this time. I do have some original sales literature around here somewhere.
I believe that I may have enough information and patterns to build the Crabb new.

I am still looking for as much info as I can find. WOW!!!! I never would've thought some body had blue prints and castings!!!! I do not know what type of sawmill it is because it doesn’t have an engine and I cannot find any serial numbers or model numbers. If I can send you measurements, maybe you are able to tell me what type it is? I can post photos and other info if you would also like. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

For manuals for this kind of stuff, if not turned up in forestry or woodworking sites (there's also a forestry forum on heavyequipmentforum.com) you may have to go to the professional manual dealers.
You can also put a want on EBay.
If you want to spend the very most, you can try Walt Miller (autolit.com???). He has some really unusual stuff, but he thinks very highly of everything he has.

Don"t know how much help this"ll be...
Google Crabb Sawmill (advance search, exact phrase) and a forestryforum hit will come up, a thread about someone who rescued a Crabb sawmill.
Included is a pic of a makers label "Independence Machine Shop, Independence, Iowa"; if that"s the builder, the local historical society, pub lib and local paper many have info on the company.
Under Independence Machine Shop, Independence, Iowa (Google advanced search, "includes all the words") there"s also a smokstak thread about a Crabb farm engine, with one of the posts asking about an old machine shop in Independence--may or may not be connected.
It"s possible that forestry forum might be a good place to post your question. Good luck
