Showdown 02-09-2013 10:59:19 75.194.7.229 Report to Moderator	I found on Walts tractor parts site, that they offer for 77 s77 770 a clutch in 9.5 in -10 in. and 11 in. in reg. and button disc. They are showing these different sizes to all fit 77 s77 770. Also the listing for the 88 s88 880. being the same part # ? Will these bigger dia. ones fit. I haven't taken this apart but i'd think the flywheel dia. wound't be big enough on my 77 to use the 10 or 11 in.ones? Any ideas Thanks......P.S. I haven't called them yet cus. it Sat. B A Star 02-09-2013 15:24:48 209.50.18.201 Report to Moderator	Re: Oliver 77 a little more clutch help?????? in reply to Showdown, 02-09-2013 10:59:19      The flywheel is the same part number for the Row Crop, Standard and Industrial.  The Industrials had 11" clutch disc and pressure plate.  When the RC or STD. tractor was built you could order a heavy duty clutch and it was the 11" clutch assembly.  Most flywheels have both sets of holes drilled and tapped, all you need is the clutch disc and pressure plate.    I assume that you are looking at increased horsepower for pulling.  The clutch does not transmitt horsepower, just transmitts torque. Higher RPM in your engine progbably doesn't increase torque, bigger cubes and or cams do.  The clutch's ability to transmitt torque depends upon: type of material on the disc, square inches of surface and the clamping presssure.  That said you can go to the larger pressure plate and disc.  The disc can be relined with more agressive material and/or you can replace the springs in the pressure plate with stronger springs.  The Fleetline shop manual lists the springs and their tension and identifies them by color code.  If it is a pressure plate that has had a lot of service, it has probably gotten hot at some time in it's life, the heat has reduced the springs tension.  I don't remember which models for sure, however some pressure plates had empty places for springs. Just be sure you have your old flywheel resurfaced so you start off with a smooth, flat, level flywheel or you'll have problems with the new clutch slipping, grabbing, binding, etc... Depending on what you have for a stock clutch, will depend on which one is a direct replacement. You can put anyone in but you will have to have the flywheel redrilled to fit the bigger clutches. Oliver 77 had 9 or 10 inch clutches. [Reply]  [No Email]
