B A Star 01-29-2013 12:26:48 209.50.18.201 Report to Moderator	Your tractor, Serial Number 39 667 was built in 1956.  The last three numbers are the powertrain code.  The first digit "6" indicates the family = 66, Super 66 or 660. The specification number 16-0144, again the number "16" is early Super 66, the last year production with the changes (Key start, large cover for battery in hood, Oliver stamped into fender & etc are "26").  Numbers 0144 is the combination of components that were installed during the assembly.  By the last number "4" it should be a diesel engine with the smallest tire size (shipped less wheels and tires).  It's a Row crop as The Super 66 was not built in the standard configuration (only Super 77 & Super 88s).    For the fun of it let's look at the Serial Number.  Remember that the Oliver Corporation's Charles City plant at that time was an Agricultural tractor production facility.  We all know that the Agricultural production and/or commidity prices ride a rollercoaster, very good one year and then comes down. Oliver had built 28,000+ tractors in 1955.  I graduated from High School in 1956 and I can tell you that we didn't raise anything that year.  Apparently they had a lot of inventory sitting around, thus Oliver only built 8,714 tractors in 56.  That means they only built 726 per month.  First tractor built in 56 is serial number 35,001 and last is 43,715.   Where does your tractor fit?  The plant was probably shut down part of the time, however placing your serial number at 726 per month would be August of 56.    If you really want to know how and when it was built & where it was shipped from the plant and ship date, you can purchase a copy of the "build card" from the Floyd County Historical Society by calling 641.228.1099  &nsp; Sorry for the rambling, It's snowing outside. The one that is on here is all there, just not in very good shape. The rubber spring system is deteriorated and the adjustment screw is rusted badly. It is a gas engine and there is no longer a key to start it. My next question is the 6 speed transmission. The card indicates two separate shifting patterns. One on the top and the other below.
