Looking to see which Oliver or White tractor models had the same trany and rear end as an Oliver 2255 with plantaries. It looks like the White 2270 and Moline G1355 are the same as an Oliver 2255. |

Thanks everyone. We have a 4wd and I am looking to see what possible tractors would have the same lower trany shaft and pinion gear. We are trying to find one since ours has one tooth chipping out. My Oliver mechanic stated there were a number of 2wd tractors that came equipped with the longer shaft and a bigger cover on the front of the trany where the speedo cable attaches. Would a lower shaft from a 2150 with planetaries be the same as a 2255? I have all the other parts from a G-1355 rear end but it appears I may need to get a different set of high range gears. Would the lower shaft from a 4-150 be the same?

Your said: My Oliver mechanic stated there were a number of 2wd tractors that came equipped with the longer shaft and a bigger cover on the front of the trany where the speedo cable attaches. That is true, but it will need to be from a 2255. Remember this was also an expensive option to add the MFW so it may have been cheaper to trade. We sold 1 1850 equipped that was equipped that way and the transmission code number was different as well.

Is this a 2 wheel drive? Remeber the 2 with the M-M engines (G-1355 & 2270) were not available with front wheel assist.

The Moline G1355, White 2270,and low serial numbered White 2-150 did use the same shafts,1/3,2/5,4/6 transmission gears, planetaries and differential final drives as an Oliver 2255. The only difference was in the High range and Low range gear sets. Those pairs of gears had a lower ratio and were changed due to the higher rated rpm of the Caterpilar engine. The later Serial numbered White 2-150 also used different 2/5 and 4/6 gear sets. They were different gear tooth counts but close in actual ratio to the earlier serial numbers.

Whoops! Almost forgot: the White 4-180 also uses the same components, although they are configured for the four-wheel-drive. Merlin

All of the transmission gears in a White 4-180 were the same as an oliver 2255. The planetaries are diffeent. They were a faster ratio due to the White 4-180 not having an Over/Under hydraul shift. This change allowed the tractor to have a higher road travel speed in direct drive. The White 4-180 used a planetary that was also used on Oliver 2050's. It is aproximately 3/4-1" narrower.

So... Could you take the gears ( or entire transmission) out of a 4-180 to get a faster road gear? How much faster would it be? Just curious...it's a long drive between some of my fields.

The only gear ratios that are different from a White 4-180 to an Oliver 2255 are the planetaries. Both tractors use the same transmission/differential/final drives gears. When it came time to speed up my Oliver 2255 that I tractor pull.I used White 2-150 Hi and Low range gear sets and a pair of White 4-180 planetaries. On 20.8x38 Firestone23' tires road speed (6th gear overdrive) at 3000 Rpm is 26 Mph on a GPS.
