I drained the transmission on my 1963 1600 gas last night and it came out a milky white and almost like paste. I drained approx 8 gallons out of it. The owners manual tells me I should fill it with SAE 90 gear oil. I am just wondering if this is still correct or is there anything else I shoud be looking for? |

| If it was mine I'd make sure the transmission pump is working (they don't fail very often) and put in 4 or 5 gallons of diesel fuel and take it for a couple mile drive to flush out all the old crud. You can check the pump by loosening the filter with the engine running, fluid should come out at the filter base as you loosen the filter. I've done that with all the tractors that I have restored as they are always like yours. |

| I'm guessing this is a new-to-you tractor?
The old oil was badly contaminated with water, probably from sitting outside and not being changed in 20+ years.
SAE90 gear lube should be fine. |

| Yes it is. I bought it about 4 years ago. I should have changed it then. I cant hardly believe the filter was even working. Thanks for the info. |
