Just brought home a 550, guy said it is a 1969, serial seems to check (214 219 019). It has a generator, wouldn't it have an alternator from the factory?

My 1973 550 has a generator. Works just fine. Enjoy your new tractor!

The 550 was the last of the then current models to receive the alternator. A friend of mine wanted me to go look at a couple of 550 tractors that were on an auction. There were 2 there that had the pad on the block to mount an alternator, but both were equipped with generators. Do you have a casting number for the block (located by the starter)?

I wonder if they did that for power steering? Did they use the generator with the pump on the back of it for power steering or did they find someplace else to stuff a little pump?

That # checks out to be a 1969, I don't know about Gen but I would bet its original. If everything if working you will love it. Best tractor in that size range ever.

Had a Kubota for a while after using a SU 88 with narrow front, I'll not bush-hog hills and hollers again without a low, wide-front.
