clutch problems in 880 do believe it has the power multiplier. at least there is a shifter that is not ever used. is it possible to get a pic of what im up against or download some info.probably never work on one again so really dont want to buy a manual.i shifts not bad in either the lower range or higher range but from one to the other has to be shut down and started in gear. |

| You do no drain any oil! You pull thr long shaft, not the shaft you hook the implement too. |

| As the clutch wears the levers move back. So the clutch releases sooner. Also the clutch disk is thinner because of wear. Since your clutch did not release, I would say the pilot bearing has failed causing the shaft to keep rotating. I also was not too clear on your comment about problems shifting from one range to the other range. Does the transmission imput shaft have any endplay? If so repair it while the engine is out. |

| well its all apart now. actually the pilot bearing was good, but for $7 will get a new one. there is still some flywheel side paint markings on the clutch, it seems quite good. lots of wear on the pressure plate fingers. definately needs a new pressure plate and will also get a new throught bearing. i did not chech tranny input shaft end play. thanks for all the help. |

You must do as John says before you try anything on the tractor clutch, because the PTO shaft runs through the tractor clutch into the flywheel. |

| so in getting somewhat into the clutch area, all takup is used on clutch pedal rod, looks like the grease line has rubbed on pressure plate. is there any external adjustment on the pressure plate, or is time for new parts? with clutch fully depressed tractor still wants to move somewhat. when you say cover has be removed do you mean main clutch cover, because i removed the tin cover over the pto? |

Re: 880 clutch in reply to brian stanek, 11-20-2012 15:49:52
|
| You need to remove the part where the tin PTO cover was attached (4 -3/8 inch cap screws). This is the clutch cover for the PTO. Then behoind the PTO clutch will be 3-3/8 inch cap screws. They need to be removed and then use a wrecking bar and pop the clutch assembly and the long PTO shaft from the tractor. |

| Also look at the old posts that you asked about the clutch. Remember safety first. You will need a lift that will raise a 1000 pounds when you remove the engine. First thing to do is remove the PTO shaft!.I would guell your pilot bearing is bad! |

| Pretty straight foreward actually. Remove the cover if it's still on so you can see the clutches. Remove the springs, bolts (count the shims), make a diagram of the placement of clutches and steels. Reverse to assemble. |

| now that i think about it must be the power booster that has the tin cover. there was no push rod to the throughtarm. |
