Re: RARE SCARCE (OLIVER TRACTOR IMPLEMENTS PLOWMAKERS) SIGN in reply to Steven Harmon, 10-21-2012 14:25:52

Im trying to figure out the connection between oliver and ford also.Whats steve Harmon talking about? I know that oliver and deere both made a light cheap plow that was sold by fordson dealers but that was in the late teens or early twentys so if oliver had anything to do with ford that blows the turn of the century thought on the date. Anything I have seen from the oliver polw company in that era was from the oliver chilled steel plow company. Im sure someone out there knows better than me. please speak up.

Yeah, contact Ebay seller name: oatbox Take a look at the repop, enter item # 290787452737 into the Ebay search engine. Or just look at "Completed Listings" of "Oliver Plowmakers Round Sign".

In 1887 to the turn of the century the Oliver Chilled Plows employed over 1000 men and manufactured over 300,000 plows and began shipping them to Africa, Australia,France, and South America. Living up to its slogan, (Plowmakers For The World)!!!

I dont think the sign is as old as you beleve it to be. Your sign says oliver tractor implements. In the 1900 era 99.9% of the country was farmed with horses. Nice sign though. I have no idea the value.

There are green "Reproductions" of this sign that are made of tin and sell on Ebay for only $25.00 The Globe with their logo and slogan "Plowmakers For The World" in famous before Oliver ever started making tractors with the merge with Ford in 1917.

| | Hart-Parr coined the word tractor sometime after 1901, so I'm having a very tough time going along with your belief this sign is pre-1900. I am also unsure how you believe Oliver had anything to do with Ford. I'm not seeing your asking price of 2K either- you better get it listed on ebay and get what you get! BTW, the word patina makes you sound like them fruitloops on history channel, I wouldn't use that word for any signs I have!

Yeah, you are right!!! After over 4 hours of more research on the internet. The sign is from 1901 to 1917 I meant Fordson and NOT Ford...
