NEED Information about 1959 Oliver 880. I have purchased a 1959 Oliver 880 from my uncle. I have not taken delivery yet. He knows it is a 59 but the diesel engine was changed before he bought it. How will I know what engine parts I need? where can I find diesel engine parts? I find lots of parts for gas but not diesel. Is the flange with the serial number part of the tractor or engine? |

First of all what do think the engine needs in the line of parts? Also important get the 3 casting numbers by the starter in case the engine placed in the tractor is not an 880. Also about 1961 the location of the engine serial number was changed to the front of the block by the generator

Thanks. My Uncle says it has a blown head gasket because it was blowing the coolant out of the radiator. He also said when he drained the oil pan, it looked like coolant in the oil. That being said it sounds like more than just a blown head gasket to me. I also think he had not changed the oil in years because he no longer used the tractor. There has been no maintenance done to it for many years.

You need to determine if you have a replacement Super 88/880 engine. There are freeze plugs under the head. If one of those leaks you will also have coolant in the oil.

Went to get the Oliver 880 tractor today but did not. Gonna try again tomorrow. My uncle said he used it to run the elevator to unload corn last fall but has not used it since. The engine is stuck. Serial number of tractor is 63562-822 which means it is a 1958, not 59 as my uncle thought. I'm still going to get it and take it apart to see if I can figure out the problem. But! I am thinking a used or rebuilt engine would be the way to go. Could you give me more information about the engine you have for sale and a price? Thanks, Bob

The tractor serial number is on the aluminum tag on the lower part of the dash panel. Down by your feet when you are sitting in the seat. Internal engine parts for the 88/S88/880 are available from this site, for one. Pistons and sleeves, bearings are same as for gas models in most cases.
