Just wondering how many of you guys have family owned tractors since new. I know my cousins bought a 1655 diesel new and they still use it today. It has about 3800 hours on it. They used it at first for picking corn (mounted) and now it plants corn, runs the drill, and rakes hay. Not a bad life. When they are done farming I will gladly purchase it from them.

Just heard from a friend that said one of his friends has a 1655 bought new by an airport. He said it has the factory canopy and the hydraulic outlets have never even been used on it. I guess all it did was mow at the airport. I guess as of now it has 800 some hours on it!

Wondering to hear some of the stories you guys know because after all thats what makes all these tractors mean so much to us all.

Our family has four Oliver tractors that were purchased new and are still in the family. I have a 1941 Oliver 60(along with a pipe mounted corn planter and cultivator) purchased by my dad and grandfather along with a 1951 oliver 77 bought by my dad's brother and after a relatively short time sold to my dad and grandfather. My brother-in-law and sister have a 1946 Oliver 70 bought by my dad. My brother has a 1968 Oliver 1750 that was purchased by my dad.

Still got my grandpa's 1951 Oliver Row Crop 77. We had the bill of sale still until my grandma died and had to clean out the house. Never could find it. :( I think he paid 1900 for the tractor and also bought a plow and maybe a disc for a few hundred dollars.

My Grandpa purchased an Oliver 88 new from Daily Implement in Mattoon, IL. The tractor is a 1949 model SN 125739 and has been in the family for the entire time. Hydra - Lectric was installed in 1962. This tractor was a demonstrator for the dealership and interestingly when new, as we have pictures, it had the yellow stripe on the tub and yellow on the radiator cap, but not the hood center strip and had the Oliver Row Crop decals, not the red Row Crop decals. Some kind of a fluke considering the decal change did not occur until 1951.

Don"t have any tractors from the family but I am only the second owner of my 1600 Oliver. I bought it two summers ago from Judson Implement. A couple weeks later while servicing grain dryers with dad we pulled up to a place and dad told me to check out the four digit Oliver that was always parked in the shed. Well in its place was a shiny new Massey Ferguson! After talking to the farmer we found out that the Oliver had been traded in on the Massey. He told us that he had bought it brand new in St. Peter MN and for the first few years all it did was pull a four bottom plow. He said one guy would get off and another would get right back on around the clock during tillage season. I finished restoring it last winter although it is still a working tractor.

Friend of mines family has inherited an old family farm ( the farm they live on been in family for 150 yrs ) that has been in family for 165 years, the farm had a WD allis on it and a 77 oliver, the oliver was bought new buy previous family on farm, still nice work clothes shape. When going through the house we found a picture of him standing alongside the tractor in a suite. Guess at one time when you bought a tractor, Oliver took a pic of you and tractor then sent it to you in the mail. Pic was still in package sent to him from Oliver. This was as neet to the family as the tractor, as they had NEVER seen him dressed up in a suit.

about 4 years ago my father sold his business (feed and grain store that used to do A LOT of coal businessa long time ago)

we were just getting started in to the old tractors
when the auction time came around he told us that it was our choie to keep or get rid of the 1961 ford 801 that was down there.

me and my brother are not ford people so we thought about it

then he dropped some informtaion on us that our grandfather bought it new

right then we both said we are keeping it

havent done much with it but its not going anywhere and it is sitting under roof

and i can say it wont be going anywhere if we have anythign to say about it

I have Oliver 70 standard my grandfather bought new in 1939. I have restored it and if I have my way it will never leave the family.
Problem is what do you do with these "Family Heirlooms" ? I am not really into trucking it to shows, and standing around all day. It is pretty ackward to do any work with and when you do you are always afraid you might ding someting up. I guess you are just supposed to get it out once a year , shine it up and put it away again? Any suggestions?

Tom, I also have the 1941 Cockshutt 70 my father got in about 1957 or so. I have a rack on the back of it similar to the one my father had. It is my mobile workbench. Only problem is I tend to leave the tools on it. Sure is handy to have away to cut a board without setting the saw horses up. I tend to use it a fair bit in the summer that way. I think of growing up with it when I do.
One problem I could use some ideas on is to get the water out of the steering gear. It freezes in the winter and you can't steer it.
Regards
Neil

Tom, We use our Oliver 60 Standard to pull a set of Jacobsen Fairway Gang Mowers to mow the 3-4 acres around our house. We use our John Deere 435 with a rotary mower, hay rake, back blade and sprayer. They are both restored. We just try to be careful as we can, but it is nice to use them on a weekly basis. Although we did not buy these tractors new, the 1944 Oliver 60 Standard was bought in 1960 and the 1959 John Deere 435 was bought in 1961, so they have been in the family for a while.

well my dad has his white iseki 2-65 that he bought new. it has and always will be our loader tractor, half the time its also an industrial loader. we also use it to rake, sometimes cut hay and run the feed cart, auger tractor, and other odds and ends around the farm. then my grandpa still has his fleetline 88, his first ever tractor, he used for all kinds of stuff until he cracked the head then it sat in the shed until this year when he finally restored it.

I have an Oliver 1950 with a Detroit in that my dad bought new in 1966. He had originally purchased a Massey Ferguson but found out it didn't have the engine speed PTO he wanted. Before the Massey was delivered he had to go back to the dealer to redo the order. Lucky for him the dealer also handled Olivers. I went with him at age 11 and got to sit on his new tractor before he did. They just happened to have the tractor he wanted sitting in the show room. It was our first Oliver ever. Still runs great, needs a DuPont overhaul though.

Just purchased a Kewanee 500 50' elevator across from a farmer close to me who retired and sold the farm. The elevator was always inside and his dad bought it new. They used it to fill one small crib. That was all.

I have the 1957 Super 55 my great-uncle bought new as a leftover model in May 1958. I purchased it from his widow on the day it was built in 1957. It had not been run in at least five years, it fired up on just a fresh battery, old gas and all. It had never left their homestead until I picked it up. After loading it on the trailer, she told me I was one of three people ever to use it, and she had to keep her husband from hurting the other one, as he used it during their vacation. They had no children of their own and she was wanting it to stay in the family. It has 1450 hours on it now, I use it mainly for mowing.

My wife"s aunt now about 87 years old has a dairy in Tulare Ca. She and her late husband bought a new Super 55 in 1955. It was used for work on the dairy every day until about 1980 then it was used in their walnut orchard until about 2000. It sits behind the barn now looks very rough but she says it was running when they parked it. She will not give it up until she passes and does not want to even see it leave the place for restoration, I offered. When the dealer delivered it they gave her son the Super 55 toy which they still have in mint condition. I am encouraging her grandson to restore it and keep it in the family.
