Got the little Oliver home this morning. Found it last week in the local srape yard. Not sure if it's a White or a Cockshutt. serial number is 259 382. Info from the HPOCA mag "Last AG oliver serial# 259358 built 3/27/75. Last Cockshutt serial # 259383 built 3/27/75. Last 550 serial # 259491 built 4/2/75 was a 552 forklift." Suposed to run, just not very good. Gotta get the loader off so I can swap the dead battery out and see if it will run. Loader is for sale if anyones interested. I have no use for it. |

| | I'm thinking 2-44 White, but my big book O'Oliver isn't listing them. Mine says 1975 serial range on the 550s were 259-255 to 259-491,which you have as a forklift. I don't know how many were sold as 2-44s or what the serial range was. Nice tractor though. I've gotta get some pictures of the Super 55 I bought Sunday as soon as I get the sheet metal set back on it. |

I haven't been able to find a breakdown either, on how many 2/44 were built. The #'s all run togeather. I may call and get a build card. that should tell what it is. I read your post this morning before I went to pick this up and I wondered for awhile if I realy wanted to get into this and mayby find a mess also. But what the hey, I pizzed away more money than that this week spending 2 days at the show in portland In. :-) Spent the afternoon tinkering on it. A little gas, alittle oil and a little battery and it fired right up. Runs OK ...If you don't mind the blue haze.

I don't think it is a 2-44 because it doesn't have the industrial solid front axle nor does it have the front mounted hyd pump.

What do you want for the loader? You don't have to say on here, but shoot me an email. I wouldn't put it on my 55,but I've been looking for a different loader tractor and it would widen the search if I was just looking for a tractor to put a loader on. The one I've got on my Deere is as rough as the tractor that it's on.

Wonder what the scrapper gave the guy for it? I see at least $1,500 of parts (loader, tires, external remote, power steering) even if the engine is completely shot.

I tought about the same. Thats why I wasn't afraid to take a chance on it. I've been dealing with this yard for about 25 years and have bought several trators as well as other stuff over the years. I would think he paid about 200 a ton and depending on his mood that day, he may or my not have docked for the tires.

It's a White model 2-55. They keep making those for awhile, after the change to the Silver tractors. Is what I remember.

A white 2-55 isn't even close to the same tractor. Not even made in the same country.

Thats kind of interesting, my guess is that being so late it would have white decals like a 2255. Most of the ones you see are a lot earlier and have the half cream color paint job with cockshutt decals.

It has been repainted at some time, but it looks as it was always red. I cannot see any hint of decal under the new paint.

It's a 2-44 sold in Canada as the tag says. When you get a build card it will be shown as a 550 as the serial number identifies. The build card does not specify 550 or 2-44. But when the tractor is imported to Canada the build card will have a red Cockshutt stamp right accross the front of the card. This was the way on my 1966 model. There used to be laws in Canada that it needed to be sold under a canadian name or more tarrif or taxes would be due. The dealerships were still operating under the Cockshutt name until about 72 or 73 then they became White dealerships. . it was built in Charles city just like all the 550's I have a yellow 2-44 (1974) that says white construction on the ID tag and white 2-44 on the hood And a red cockshutt 550 (1966) that says cockshutt and i think white also on the ID tag with cockshutt 550 on the hood They both came from Canada. I have build sheets for both They were available as stripped down or as loaded as the dealer/customer wanted to order them I've seen 550's with out PTO's with and with out power steering, or heavy or light front ends. Also with 6 speed or 4 speed shuttle transmissions. I also know of a white 2-44 construction fork lift that was bought and delivered to an Oliver/ White farm equipment dealer. This was not supposed to happen as white construction was a division that did not intermingle with the farm equipment side. The long n short is there is no set way and just like burger king you could get it any way you wanted. Between 15 and 20 years ago a lot of equipment came to the states when the American dollar was worth 1.20 to 1.35 Canadian equivalent. Making it very attractive for canadian sellers and American buyers.

Oh yes forgot to mention they renamed the model numbers in 1973 to the new format When every thing came under the white name plate Ie. 2-44 2-105 4-xxx. Etc.
