I'm working on the front axle where the tubes slide out. The bearing where the spindle sits on are so bad the bushing was gone and the side load ate the spindle bushing. Anyway does anybody have good tips of getting the frozen axle tubes out of the axle? My thinking is heat up the out tube really hot and use a crane to pull on one end and tie the other down on a machine or heavy. Portapower is close handy too but no good place to use it.

My other question is has anybody ever had to machine this area where the spindle load bearing sits? These tubes are mushrooms out where the bearing seats. I would also like to mention at this time this is a set back(short wheelbase) axle we are working with. I assume these aren't just laying around like a row crop axle. I would think they would be pricey. If I were to find a whole axle how much would it be? $400 or more? Thanks guys.

A porta power or frame straitener is the only way to fly IMHO.

Thanks guys. I just rigged up some steel and welded brackets to the floor with the axle standing up and chained te other end to a 20 ton crane. After a lot of heat and beating it slid right out. Also the other side came out a lot easier when we pulled that side out. Thanks again.

I got one apart once by laying it on my trailer. Chaining it down on both ends and tighting it up with a rachet binder. Then wailed on it with a sledge. Took awhile but it came, with a bang! sounded like a cannon. Your results may vary.

I took one apart that came off a 1650. I sprayed it down with bp blaster and and used a sledge hammer. I hit it every time I came through the shop. It took several days but finally came a part. I put it on an 1850 and have the short wheel base front end that came off the 1850. If someone needs it.I was reajusting the wheel spacing from 30 inch to 36 inch rows.
